Sperm donation is a procedure in which a man donates sperm to help a couple conceive a baby.
The sperm can either be injected directly into the woman’s womb (Intrauterine Insemination, IUI) or used to fertilize oocytes in a lab (In Vitro Fertilization).
The donor of sperm, which remains anonymous, must be screened for medical conditions and other risk factors as foreseen by the relevant legal framework. A man who considers becoming a sperm donor should be aware that there are no health risks associated with sperm donation.
After providing all the necessary preparation instructions, the donation is done at the sperm bank. Thereafter, the sample is frozen and -in the following months- all donor predictions are made. If the results are negative, the sample is defrosted and the male is eventually selected as a sperm donor.
